Dirt Rider checks in on the National Enduro round in Maine.

Russell Bobbitt kept his championship hopes alive with a win in the rocks at round nine of the Rekluse/AMA National Enduro Series in Noble, Maine, spoiling Charlie Mullins’ chances of wrapping up the series title early. With one round left on the schedule, Mullins came into the Maine event with a five-race win streak and a healthy 29-point lead in the standings, and another win would have given him an insurmountable lead in the title chase. However, the Obermeyer/Am Pro/FMF Yamaha rider struggled with the dry and rocky terrain in Maine while Bobbitt thrived in it. In the end, Bobbitt walked away with his first win of the season while Mullins ended the day in fifth. Mullins still has the inside track towards his first national enduro title, needing only an eighth place finish at the series finale in Indiana to get the job done.

Dirt Rider checks in on James Stewart’s return to racing and Ryan Dungey’s continued domination of the series at this week’s Unadilla National Motocross.

The media hype last week was all about James Stewart and his return to the Lucas Oil AMA National Motocross series at Unadilla Valley Sports Center. But after two motos and 32 laps, the day belonged to Ryan Dungey, as the Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider demonstrated the speed and conditioning that have carried him to eight-straight overall wins and solidified him as the sports newest and one of its brightest stars. Stewart fans need not worry, however, as the San Manuel Yamaha rider was blazing fast, as well, but after sitting on the sidelines for the past eight months, lacked the race-hardened stamina to deal with Unadilla’s grueling course. In the end, it was Belgian GP star, Clement Desalle that provided Dungey with his toughest challenge, but even Desalle couldn’t maintain Dungey’s pace for the duration of the race.
