When it comes to purchasing motocross gear, there are a range of things that need to take priority over other items that are needed. Among the two most important items are helmets and motocross boots. These are the two items that offer riders ultimate protection and will hopefully prevent them from getting seriously injured in the event of a bad crash.
Motocross boots are designed to protect riders, whatever the scenario is. Whether it is a major crash or simply flying debris, they are designed to reduce the impact or the injury that would have taken place if the boots were not being used. It is for this reason that so many people choose to spend as much as possible on their boots.
The quality of the boot is extremely important and something that should be researched before purchasing. A lot of cheaper boots simply do not offer the protection that other boots might be able to offer. It might seem that boots such as the Alpinestars Tech 10 are just high in price because of the high quality brand, but that is not the case.
Motocross boots such as these are extremely popular for a reason; because they do everything a rider needs them to. Not only do they offer a rider excellent protection, but they also offer them excellent flexibility.
There is nothing worse than riding with a boot that restricts the movement of gear changes and when applying the brakes. Boots like these will restrict a riders riding style and of course their speed. For this reason, try and extend a motocross boots budget to take into account the fact that with a high price comes high quality!

So if you read my RM250 post, you’ll know where I stand. I picked up a YZ250 1992 model off the forum. Basically so far the bloke previously has done a good job of restoring it back to standard. It’s about 80% there and I’ll probably need £100 or so and some elbow grease as long as the engine and gearbox are all good.
It’s a rolling chassis with the engine installed at the moment. Parts have been done, although certain bolts need tapping out and it’s a case of fitting a few new parts. I’ll have pictures up as soon as possible.
I’ll be detailing this rebuild on motocross mania, which is in my sig… I’ll try and keep you all posted!

So I’ve decided to start taking on some project bikes to pass some spare time and hopefully make some cash. Not easy cash, but gives me something to do! I’ve always fixed what I can on my bikes in the past, but never built them from the ground up.
I’ve purchased a 2007 CRF250 which I just plan to sell on at a profit after I spent a few hours today tidying it up. Apart from that I’ve bought two project bikes. I got a clean 1992 YZ250 which is sort’ve 80% there which is good, and a 2002 RM250.
The RM250 was dirt cheap so I didn’t even give it a good check over. It looks like it has a full 7 years worth of dirt everywhere and is a complete mess. I’ve had a good check over it today and it needs A LOT of work. The only down point is that I can now see that it has obviously threw a chain in the past, which means some muppet has tried to bodge the crankcase with rubbish welding and some filler. So it is a case of getting a second hand one, possibly off eBay!
I’ve got it down to a rolling chassis now. I’ve taken the head off and the cylinder looks fine. The clearance around the piston is fine, but it does look a bit rough. The spark plug has metled between the gap, so there is the reason it does not start! So I’ll be having the cylinder off over the next few days and see what I’m dealing with. Obviously I can’t test the gearbox until I have it running which is a bit risky I guess. Even with the purchase of a crankcase, I’ll still hopefully clear a profit and learn a lot in the process.
I’ll get some pictures up as soon as possible!
Check out my 1992 YZ250 post as well!
